What is the One Million Coders Programme?

Launched nearly a year ago by President John Dramani Mahama, the One Million Coders Programme aims to equip one million young Ghanaians with coding and digital skills. The goal is to position Ghana as a leading digital economy in Africa by creating sustainable employment opportunities in the tech sector .

The initiative began with a pilot phase that targeted just 500 trainees. However, the hunger for digital skills in Ghana proved overwhelming; the portal received nearly 94,000 applications within 48 hours of the initial launch . This massive demand forced authorities to expand the pilot and fast-track the national rollout.

How to Register for the One Million Coders Program

The registration process is completely online and user-friendly. Follow this step-by-step guide to secure your spot.

Step 1: Visit the Portal

Go to the official registration website: 

One million coders

Step 2: Fill Basic Information

You will need to provide:

· Full Name (exactly as it appears on official documents)

· Age Range and Gender

· Information regarding accessibility support (PWD) if applicable .

Step 3: Educational Background

Select your highest level of education. While you have the option to upload certificates, the program is designed to be inclusive, allowing individuals from different educational backgrounds to participate .

Step 4: Verification & Password Setup

· Email & OTP: Enter a valid email address and click "Get OTP." Retrieve the One-Time Password from your inbox to verify your email.

· Ghana Card: Enter your Ghana Card number. This will be verified later to ensure the authenticity of applicants and reduce fake registrations .

· Password: Create a password containing uppercase and lowercase letters, plus a number (minimum 6 characters).

Step 5: Final Submission

Accept the Terms and Conditions and click the Submit button.

Important Update for Previous Applicants

If you applied during the pilot or Phase One but were not selected, do not fill out a new form.

What Happens After Registration?

Once registered, the government—through its partners like GIFEC and the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence—will place successful applicants into learning centers.

The program is currently operating in 130 learning centers across all 16 regions, with each center equipped with 50 customized laptops. Twelve tertiary institutions, including the University of Ghana and KNUST, are also participating in the training .
